Full house extension and refurbishment
The original house had been derelict for a number of years before the clients purchased it as their family home. The front of the property could not be changed architecturally, due to its location in a conservation area, whereas the rear gained approval for a contemporary full width single storey extension.
The design maximised the available space by adding a double storey side extension, a full width rear extension, opening up the ground floor and allowing the first floor rooms to have additional ceiling height by incorporating the loft space within the volume of the room.
Two walls at ground floor, towards the centre of the house gently funnel you from the hallway to the main open plan space, and provide a sunny golden glow in the centre of the house, which can be seen from many aspects.
New highly efficient windows and doors were incorporated on all elevations to allow daylight into the darker central spaces and views out through all elevations.
The front garden was repaved using permeable concrete paving to maximise planting as well as allow parking.
The clients have wonderful plans for landscaping the front and rear gardens in the near future and enjoying their new home.
